Richard Hart started coming to the Northampton Jesus Centre as a user of its services. He now regularly volunteers and his kindness is making a huge difference to others. We sat down to find out a little bit more about him.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I’m 40, Northampton boy, I like making people laugh and I love Star Wars.
How long have you been coming to the Northampton Jesus Centre?
I’ve been coming for nearly 4 years.
You started coming here as a user of the services, what was it that you appreciated most of all?
I enjoyed the atmosphere, the reception when I came in, the facilities were very beneficial.
How has the Northampton Jesus Centre helped you?
I gained a better understanding of faith. Also, by mixing with lots of different people, I’ve improved my interpersonal skills and developed my ability to better understand certain types of people.
Now you are one of our key volunteers. How did that happen?
When I was a visitor, I often helped tidy up. I’m always happy to help. I was asked to become a volunteer because of that.
What do you enjoy most about it?
Volunteering gives me a sense of purpose, helping someone who needs it. Whether it be a listening ear or washing clothes. I love giving without expecting anything in return.
